IBM’s AI-Enabled ICT Workforce Consortium
IBM today announced the launch of the AI-Enabled ICT Workforce Consortium, a collaborative initiative involving leading companies like Cisco, Accenture, Google, and Microsoft, among others. This consortium aims to address the impact of AI on technology jobs by identifying new opportunities for reskilling and upskilling.
Catalysed by the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council’s Talent for Growth Task Force, the consortium will assess how AI is transforming ICT job roles and develop training pathways for the workforce. The first phase will result in a report providing actionable insights and recommendations for business leaders and workers.
The consortium members, representing a broad spectrum of industries, will collaborate to offer practical solutions for AI-driven changes in the workplace. They will focus on training programmes that are inclusive and beneficial to various stakeholders, including students, career changers, current IT workers, employers, and educators.
Key goals include:
- Cisco’s commitment to training 25 million people in cybersecurity and digital skills by 2032.
- IBM’s initiative to skill 30 million individuals in digital skills, including 2 million in AI, by 2030.
- Intel’s aim to empower 30 million people with AI skills by 2030.
- Microsoft’s plan to train and certify 10 million people from underserved communities in digital skills by 2025.
- SAP’s goal to upskill two million people worldwide by 2025.
- Google’s recent funding of EUR 25 million for AI training and skills across Europe.
This consortium is poised to make significant strides in preparing the global workforce for an AI-driven future, ensuring that workers from all backgrounds can benefit from new job opportunities created by AI advancements.
